In pairs, students will lead the class in a discussion of the assigned readings for the week. Students may choose to use all of the assigned readings for the week or one or two readings that stand out to them. Only one group will be able to sign up per time. You may choose who your partner will be, but one of you will have to come back to this assignment to indicate which week/diagnosis you will be presenting. Note, that if there are 2 groups that will go on the same day, the first group will cover the required readings and the second group will cover the supplemental readings from the week. If there are two diagnoses being covered groups may choose one or the other and with 2 pairs one can do one diagnosis and the other group will cover the second diagnosis. For example: The week anxiety and depression is covered. If there are two groups, the first group will cover anxiety disorders and the second will cover depressive disorders
Besides highlighting the information in the selected readings, you must also include the implications for social work practice at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels, and relevance to your current social work practice. The pair will bring 3-4 discussion questions that invoke engagement in discussion and critical thinking. The leaders should show they have a clear understanding of the material being presented and preparation.
The discussion should be professional, succinct, clear, and informative. You may use PowerPoint, handouts, or other relevant teaching tools to convey your information to the class. Creativity is encouraged. This is an opportunity to “think outside the box” and have fun with the material. Each presentation should last for approximately 15-20 minutes.
