All theories have a historical context. Understanding the historical context for psychoanalysis theory is important in understanding how the theory evolved, its key tenets and perspectives, and current applications of the theory. Directions
Write a paper (1,750-2,000 words) that demonstrates your understanding of the first force in psychology – psychoanalysis. Your paper should provide a historical perspective for the movement. Showcase your understanding of the key components, and suggest a synthesis of the key theorists. Include the following in your paper.
An overall historical context for psychoanalysis. Discuss the history and development of psychoanalysis/psychodynamic theory.
An analysis of psychoanalysis/psychodynamic theory. What were the primary tenets and perspectives of the theories? Who were the key theorists? How did their work lead them to new ideas including neo-Freudianism?
A rationale for why psychoanalysis is/was considered essential to understanding human behavior and experiences.
